Craig Rees has claimed bragging rights over his son Steve after Wherrol Flat’s B-grade side, captained by Steve, fell victim to Wingham, captained by Craig.
Steve, however, will be reminding dad that the Flat is still on top of the B-grade competition ladder.
It was Wherrol Flat’s first defeat of the season last Saturday when the team went down to the Wingham at Central Park.
Craig Rees won the toss and elected to bat and the Wingham side scored a big total of 289 runs from its allocated 40 overs.
Nick Delaney top-scored with 143 – he certainly seems to have found some confidence after being regraded to B-grade.
Mitch Barnett racked up 43 and another youngster, Jake Mullen, scored 34 to be the main run scorers.
James Thompson also liked the bowling and attacked with a fast hit 27 not out with two sixes and three fours to his name.
For the Flat side, the pick of the bowling was Trent Potts (4/43 from eight overs).
The other wicket takers were Adam Maddalena and Joey Taylor.
In reply, Wherrol Flat was all out for 201 after 34 overs.
The team did well to try and chase down the Wingham total, just needing one or two good partnerships.
For the Flat, Mark Blanch remained not out on 61, Brendon Boyd batted well for his total of 32 as opener, Brock Hynes made 25 and Adam Maddalena 20 to be the main run scorers for the Flat side.
