IT couldn’t have been a closer game last Saturday in the semi final at the rec grounds. Playing second placed Old Bar in wet conditions, the boys seemed up to the task, but runs were hard to come by.
Wingham batted first sending in openers Hudson Summerfield and Craig Watson. It was a slow outfield but the boys hit 7 runs between them to start the innings well.Tyler Webb was top scorer for the day on 8 runs, including a great 6 to keep the runs coming. Five wickets were lost for an average of 16.2 after 25 overs.
Old Bar started strong in their time at the crease with their openers scoring 14 runs. With no loss after four overs Ronan Meaker took a well deserved wicket but the team would not take another one for 10 more overs.
Nash Atkins, Hudson Bird, BJ Woolfe and Jason Rees all took a wicket each and it wasn’t till the very last over that the outcome was known.
Old Bar ended on 15.2, making Wingham victors by 1 run! Jason Rees and Lochie Kliendienst had their best bowling performances for the season and have improved tremendously. Good luck in next weeks grand final.
Under 12 Raiders
THE Wingers Raiders played Great Lakes Red (second position) in the semi final on Saturday at Stokes Circuit. On a wet and overcast day, the Raiders won the toss and elected to bowl on a rain affected pitch.
Opening bowlers Blake Rose-Brislane and Mitchell Niven both took early wickets and after 13 overs had GLR 2-40. Michael King took in great catch off Jorden M Saxby to have GLR 3-76 after 19 overs. Cory Armstrong bowled tightly and eventually was rewarded with a wicket by a great catch to Jai Slaven. A great run out thrown in by Ben Crowe saw GL Red 5/104 after 28 overs. Ryan Morris, after a great stint behind the stumps, then bowled and even though the runs up were wet managed a wicket. A run out and another wicket to the opening bowlers saw GL Red after 45 overs 9-141. Best of the bowlers were Mitchell Muers 2/20 off 8, Blake Rose-Brislane 2/21 off 8. Jordan M Saxby 1/9 off 3.
After waking to the rain, the pitch was wet but after drying and a half-hour delay the opening pair of Blake Rose-Brislane and Corey Armstrong after the first over were 0/4. Unfortunately Blake was bowled for one in the next over and Ryan Morris arrived and immediately got off the mark with a great cover drive. Corey playing positive and great scoring shots continued to put on runs and after 10 over were 1-49. Running a second run, Corey was run out for a well earned 13. Michael King and Ryan continued to put on runs to just before drinks Ryan was caught and at drinks the team was 3-72. Mitchell Niven started confidently and hit a couple of boundaries. He and Michael put on 32 runs before Michael was bowled for 15 runs.
After 20 overs 4/106 Archie Robertson played a great knock with 7 well earned runs and a 32 run partnership with Mitchell Niven. When Archie was caught the Raiders were 5/136 enter Ben Crowe who played his best innings at the season (13 not out) to get the boys over the line. Ben and Mitchell put on a 26 run partnership to be both not out and a well earned win 5/162 after 30 overs. Mitchell Niven had a great Captains knockout of 36 not out and now the boys go to the final next week against Great Lakes White at Rec 2. The boys only have nine players and have played solidly all season. Goodluck boys. Our thanks go to two under 10 players. Craig and Natalie Watson who made themselves available to bat as two players had other commitments.
