THE Manning uner 19s Colts have claimed the inter-district shield with a 59-run win over Hastings.
At a hot Cedar Party Reserve, the Manning Colts won the toss and elected to bat on a slow and sticky wicket.
Manning’s first wicket fell in the seventh over when Ricky Campbell was caught for 20 from a ball that held up in the wicket, 1-39. The next to go was Wingham’s Michael Rees when he played around one to be bowled for 18, the score on 2-75 at drinks. Wingham batsman Nick Delaney didn’t bother the scorers when he received a brute of a delivery that kicked off the wicket and hit high on the bat and was caught for 0, 3-81.
Josh McLeod was looking good until he was caught for 9, 4-99. Wingham all-rounder Jamie Hartland was the next to go for 9, 5-127. Justin Boyd put on a very well compiled 18 before he was run out, 6-168. Marcus Blanch was the next to fall for 0, 7-170. Nathan George strode to the wicket full of confidence and with Jeremy Dack moved the score to 201 before Jeremy was stumped on 88. At the end of innings, Manning had set an imposing 8-204.
The Manning Colts were without Wingham’s North Coast and Emu opening bowler David Rees due to work commitments, but called on two very talented cricketers and the future spear heads of the Colts in Reece Whitton and Kyle Sykes.
These two opened the bowling and were very unlucky with edges flying everywhere except to fielders until Ricky Campbell took a screamer at first slip and Hastings where 1-27 after 7. Justin Boyd was thrown the ball and delivered in his second over to have the visitors 2-73 at drinks.
Michael Rees was introduced the first over after drinks and the off spinner took a wicket the very first ball, Hastings 3-73. Jamie Hartland was introduced from the other end and he and Michael Rees put the clamps on the Hastings innings with the next 12 overs only going for 17 runs. Jamie had the next wicket when Josh McLeod took an absolute screamer to remove Nick Cutler, 4-86. From there on in, Manning were in total control, when Michael Rees had his second wicket, 5-109. At the second drinks break Hastings where 5-109 and had only put on 40 runs in the session due to some outstanding bowling and fielding.
Josh McLeod was introduced and took the next three wickets to have Hastings 6-115. Marcus Blanch was thrown the ball and rapped up the innings, Hastings all out 145.
Special mention goes to Jeremy Dack for his 88, Josh McLeod 4-22, M Rees 10 overs 2-19 and Marcus Blanch, whose outstanding fielding really lifted the team.
This very young Colts side only loses two players next year because of age, and with the talent coming through, supporters can look forward to retaining the shield for many years to come.
