CUNDLETOWN wrapped up the all important Manning A-grade cricket minor premiership when downing second placed Wingham in the final round clash at Johnny Martin Oval.
Wingham produced a disappointing batting performance on the opening day when they crashed to be all out for 119. Cundletown was well placed at stumps, having 83 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets.
However, they had a few nervous moments before overhauling the score. Both overnight batsmen, Ricky Campbell and Nathan Currie fell on 94, Campbell to David Rees on 43 while Currie was dismissed by Trevor Bailey for 11.
Greg Stewart and Kel McInness came and went as Cundletown slumped to be 8/103. However, an invaluable 36 by Michael Couch saw Cundletown safely home. Couch was given great support by Jamie Waugh, who remained not out on nine. Cundletown made 151.
The Wingham attack was weakened by the loss of Russell Laing and Brad Staff. Rees finished with the best figures, taking 4/43 while Bailey took 2/19 as did Jamie Hartland.
Wingham’s batsmen showed more resolve in their second dig. Openers Nick Delaney and Hartland put on 95 before Delaney was dismissed for 50 - his first half century in A-grade.
Hartland made 42 - his highest score in A-grade while Simon Telfer cracked 42 and Michael Rees 47 as Wingham declared at 4/150.
Josh Ferris took 2/38 for Cundletown and skipper Anthony Turner 2/10.
Cundletown batted a second time and finished at 3/81. Ferris was not out 25 while Turner hit 39.
Semi-finals in all grades will start next Saturday. A-grade will be two day games while B and C-grades will be one dayers.
Cundletown, Wingham, Leagues and Taree West will battle out the A-grade semi-finals. Wingham play Taree West at Cedar Party Reserve.
