FOUR National Rugby League football players from the Sydney Roosters will be in town next week meeting their fans at Wingham schools.
The league stars - exactly who is yet to be confirmed - will be speaking at schools in the area including Tinonee Public, Wingham Public, Wingham Brush and Wingham High School and will talk to students about goals and dreams and the importance of setting goals to work towards.
They will also share their stories of how they made it to the NRL.
A special registration afternoon for Wingham Junior Rugby League will be held on Tuesday February 7 at the Wingham Sporting Complex and will host the special guests from the Roosters.
The afternoon will begin at 4pm with everyone welcome to come along and try rugby league with football skills and drills run by the Roosters players.
A free sausage sizzle is available for any child who signs up to a Wingham Tigers junior rugby league team that afternoon. Each child who signs up will also receive a special edition Wingham Tigers mini league football.
National development officer for Australian Rugby League, Kylie Hilder said the area is lucky to have NRL players come to visit regional communities, meet fans and promote rugby league as a sport.
“The NRL visits are always very good and the players really enjoy it too,” Kylie said.
The Wingham Junior Rugby League committee is looking forward to the beginning of the 2012 season with new developments and new sponsors making for a great start to the season already.
Resurfacing work was completed on the mini field at the Wingham Complex and will now hold up better in wet weather.
An undercover area has also been erected on the grounds which will benefit all players and visitors.
Following registration afternoons will be held at Central Park at the log February 9, 14 and 16.
