THE atrocious condition of Wingham's Gloucester Road will be among the first projects addressed with the money raised from the rate rise in Greater Taree.
The city council determined its 2010-11 works program for the extra money collected under its rate variation at its ordinary meeting last week.
The council secured a 10 per cent rate rise - including the pegged amount of 2.6 per cent - for three years starting in the current financial year.
A section of Wingham's Gloucester Road between Farquhar Street and Boundary Road will be funded to the tune of $2.24 million, with $1.5 million coming from the rate rise and the other $740,000 provided by the Roads and Traffic Authority and other sources.
There was more good news for Wingham with a council report confirming that a section of Queen Street North - between Price and Belbourie streets - was also in line for repairs.
While this $600,000 project will be funded under the regular works program rather than through the rate rise revenue, it will be tendered along with the Gloucester Road project.
The report, prepared by the council's executive leader resource planning Craig Swift-McNair, stated it had not yet been confirmed which works will be funded by the rate rise money in 2011-12 and 2012-13, with the program to be reported to the councillors once determined.
The council also endorsed the proposed borrowings that will be used in conjunction with increased revenues from the rate rise to maximise the available funds.
