WINGHAM residents: the time has come for you to show support for those affected by cancer.
Team nominations are now being called for the 2010 Manning Valley Relay for Life.
The Relay for Life is a 12-hour relay in support of the Cancer Council. It will be held at the Taree Showground in 2010.
“It is a special day, a day to reflect,” Relay for Life supporter Mal Marks said.
“It is a chance for people to remember those we have lost, and to give cancer survivors hope on their journey.
“We’re aiming to try and get people to organise their teams as soon as possible. That way they can start fundraising.”
The relay will take place on May 1 and 2. Organisers have already recieved a huge response and are aiming for 75 teams.
The biennial event will agin be held in a carnival atmosphere, with people from across the Manning Valley set to be involved.
“The best thing about it is the amount of young people who have come on board,” Mr Marks said.
“Kids are becoming more comfortable with standing up and being counted if they’ve lost an aunty, uncle, parent, grandparent or sibling to cancer.”
There will be music and food, a stage for young bands, and plenty of space to kick a ball around or just sit back and relax.
Information and entry details can be picked up from the Wingham Chronicle office in Isabella Street.
