AUGUST has always been a time of celebration for Brian and Joyce Morton. And this year is no different.
The Wingham couple will celebrate their son Steven’s birthday tomorrow, their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, and their daughter Carol’s 50th birthday on Tuesday.
“It’s always a busy time of the year!” Brian said. “But we always manage to combine the celebrations into a nice family event.”
Brian and Joyce met at the age of 15 when they were working in a factory in their native Yorkshire during World War II.
Apart from Brian’s national service from 1946 to 1949, the pair have never been apart. They were both 21 years old when they were married at the Kirkheaton Village Church on August 22, 1950.
Brian and Joyce moved to Australia permanently in 1971, and have lived on Carey’s Mountain, just outside WIngham, since 1993.
They both attribute common interests and their family as the main factors that have kept their union together.
