Time to put your money where your ears are

2BOB Radio will host its annual fundraising drive this weekend.

Radiothon is a time for listeners to show their support for community radio in the Manning Valley by making financial pledges which will help keep the station on the air for the next 12 months.

Program manager Rosie Smith said the fundraiser was a chance for listeners to "put their money where their ears are".

"We run on the smell of an oily rag," station manager Rob Meaton said. "It's time to grease the rag."

The money raised during the Radiothon will be put towards the refurbishment of the 2BOB studios.

2BOB's board plans to move its live broadcasting from studio one to studio two next door as well as converting the disused back room into a functional meeting and training room.

Radiothon will be held from 6am Friday till 10pm Sunday when a whole week's worth of programs will be squeezed into the weekend.

There are plenty of great prizes up for grabs to keep the donations pouring in.

They include tickets to festivals, including Festival of the Sun at Port Macquarie, Subsonic at the Barrington Tops and Open Arms at Coffs Harbour, along with CDs, vouchers, a forest horse ride and a beautiful lamp.

The major prize in the raffle is a two-night cruise on Sydney Harbour with Captain Cook Cruises, valued at over $1000.

There will also be plenty of special guests coming into the studio to show their support for community radio in the Manning Valley.

2BOB Radio has been broadcasting fulltime from Taree Park since 1986 and provides access to the airwaves for countless community groups as well as promoting local events and local musical artists.

2BOB is committed to supporting Australian music and it plays artists and genres that you won't hear on other stations.

The station is run completely by volunteers and relies on the support of listeners and businesses to run.

Tune in to 104.7FM and phone 6552 6200 to pledge your financial support.
