One-in-20-year flood sees Wingham homes evacuated

15 Jun, 2011 05:39 PM
WITH river heights expected to peak at Wingham at 9pm tonight (Wednesday), the State Emergency Service is preparing for the evacuation of homes on the Wingham peninsular.

The 258mm of rain the Manning has received in the past 56 hours saw the Cedar Party Creek Bridge at the entrance to Wingham overflow at 5pm today (Wednesday).

The SES said there is also a possibility of the evacuation of 104 residents of a Wingham nursing home, as well as a possible disruption of rail services on the Taree rail line should the water reach its predicted peak of 11.9 metres.
