THE Wingham health community has welcomed accredited practising dietician John Jones, who is now practising out of Wingham Family Health Clinic on alternate Mondays. John, an ex-Newcastle Knights rugby league player, is a well known identity throughout the Manning Valley.
As well as offering individual consultations at WFHC, John will be providing diabetes education programs that help to promote a healthy lifestyle. John has teamed up with local nutritionist Lauren Murray to conduct guided supermarket tours.
"These are a great chance to really understand good food choices and how to read those nutrition panels," John said. "Supermarket tours take the confusion out of reading nutrition labels."
The tours run for an hour and the cost is $50.
Nutrition continues to be an important part of staying healthy and addressing medical problems. There is now more evidence than ever that good nutrition is one of the most critical aspects of wellness. John can help people with weight loss and weight gain, addressing eating disorders, and helping adjust to different life stages.
"A lot of people like to clarify their dietary needs during pregnancy and in the post-natal period," John said. "As we age our nutritional needs change too, so adolescents and older people also benefit from professional advice. One of my main interests is helping people with good nutrition to help manage their ongoing medical conditions. It's amazing how much better you can feel once you start eating well."
Dr Phil Rayson said "We are always striving to help manage medical problems with good nutrition. In particular, people with insulin resistance or the early stages of diabetes can often remain drug free with a good diet and exercise program."
