WINGHAM High School welcomes two fresh faces to the teaching staff in 2010.
They are Adriene Muscat, the new head of social sciences and PD/H/PE, and English teacher and head of student wellbeing, Jennifer Boyle.
Both Mrs Boyle and Mr Muscat bring a bank of knowledge and experience to their new roles.
In Mrs Boyle’s case, it has been a matter of returning to the scene where it all began.
Jennifer Boyle (nee Brewer) grew up in Marlee and was a student at Wingham High from 1970 to 1975.
She studied teaching at Newcastle University before gaining her first placement in the Hunter Valley. Mrs Boyle then left the coast to embark on a stint at Wee Waa in the state’s north-west.
After spending 26 years at the 180-strong school, it was time for a move.
Mrs Boyle’s placement at Wingham also brings her closer to her mother Kath Brewer, who lives in town.
“I used to know the name of every child at my old school,” she said. “I don’t know how I’m going to go here though. It might take a while.
“The staff here have been extremely helpful. They are always willing to point you in the right direction.”
Adriene Muscat has developed a sound local knowledge since he first arrived in the Great Lakes region in 2002.
Mr Muscat, who grew up in Kootingal near Tamworth, also graduated from Newcastle University and was first posted at Forster High School eight years ago.
He has taught at the Tuncurry Junior Campus of the Great Lakes College and also the Tuncurry Senior Campus.
“I always felt it was important to stay local and utilise the educational contacts I’ve made,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity to utilise existing resources for the benefit of the kids.”
