LOCAL farmers will have their say on the future of the dairy industry as the national round of forums stop in Wingham.
The Dairy Poll 2012 will give farmers a say in how they will support their industry over the next five years. The poll will decide how much farmers will invest in industry-good activities which Dairy Australia says currently delivers more than $3 of benefits for each $1 spent.
The Wingham poll will be held at the Golf Club on January 23, starting at 7pm. The hour-long forum, which includes a light meal, will also be attended by representatives from Australian Dairy Farmers Ltd.
The Federal Government requires Dairy Australia to go to its farmer shareholders up to every five years seeking their opinion on the levy rate.
Dairy Poll 2012 will offer three options for farmers to vote on including a 15 percent lift, a 10 percent lift or no lift at all. These options were decided upon by a Dairy Poll Advisory Committee chaired by president of Australian Dairy Farmers, Mr Chris Griffin. The members of the 20-strong committee were drawn from all industry sectors and a wide cross section of dairy farmers representing a range of views.
All dairy farmers would have received their voting entitlements in December, followed by a voting pack containing their ballot paper in February 2012. Ballot papers must be returned by March 16. Farmers are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Pauline for catering by phoning 03 9694 3761.
