Local father abreast with feeding issues

07 Sep, 2010 01:03 PM
A WINGHAM father and his son are the cover stars of this month's Australian Breastfeeding Association magazine Essence.

Inside the Father's Day special Matthew Boyling, who lives with his wife Marcelle and two-year-old Lucca, gives a dad's perspective about the breastfeeding journey.

He talks about how rewarding the experience of fatherhood has been, the challenges and struggles he and Marcelle faced as she and Lucca learnt the skill of breastfeeding, and what a wonderful bond it has given the family.

"As a husband sometimes you feel extremely helpless but I think if you can provide 100 per cent support and encouragement, you will also gain a lot of satisfaction from this special time in your family's life," he told the magazine.

"After breastfeeding became a natural ritual, it was a time for us all to sit together. It was a special time to enjoy the fortunes of my relationship both with my partner and, as a couple, with our new baby.

'It is something I would encourage all fathers to do.

"Being a father is more fun than I could have ever imagined with every day being a new adventure and achievement in our little boy's life."

The photos in the magazine are from the early days of Lucca's life.
