Wingham High is among four schools in the Manning Valley that have won a share of more than $4 million in federal funding for new constructions.
A new language centre will be constructed at Wingham High at a cost of $920,000.
The member for Lyne, Rob Oakeshott, said he was particularly pleased to see the focus on languages through this funding.
“Language skills are a ticket to the world, be it through employment overseas or engagement in a range of differing ways,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“A lot of jobs now require second language skills so it is a smart option for students to aggressively pursue a second language and to reach a level of competence that allows them to use it when they leave school.”
Chatham High School will receive the same amount for a new language centre, while St Clare’s High School, Taree, will receive funds to refurbish its science laboratories and Manning Valley Anglican College, Cundletown, will be awarded $1,539,000 for a new science and language centre.
This investment takes the total spend on stimulus measures on the Mid North Coast over the $80 million mark.
