Killabakh alive with community spirit

09 Nov, 2011 11:32 AM
COMMUNITY spirit was overwhelming on the weekend at the annual ‘Day in the Country’ fundraiser which saw more than 3000 people make their way passed Wingham to spend their Saturday in the sunshine at Killabakh hall.

The glorious weather was a draw card with crowds of people enjoying the relaxed country atmosphere, fabulous food and outstanding entertainment on offer.

Financially the day proved to be the best fundraiser in the 25 years of the event running, with excess of $10 000 profit made for the community.

“We’ll now be able to fund not just ongoing maintenance of our community buildings, grounds and facilities but will be able to implement some much needed improvements,” publicity officer Alison McIntosh said.

Alison also added that they could not have achieved this without the wonderful organising committee, art coordinators and our dedicated volunteers who cleaned, cooked and made other preparations and then worked so hard throughout the day.

This included dismantling the infrastructure and ‘mopping up’ at the end of the event. Many did not get a chance to draw breath as the crowds of people devoured almost all the food that had been prepared.

Highlights on the day were the demonstrations from Five Elements Tai Chi Health and Cualia Tribal Belly dancers which drew large crowds of admirers.

The Red Cedar Band also set the mood with upbeat tunes serenading the masses as they dined on the gourmet food available.

The success of ‘A Day in the Country’ is a testament to the hard working and close knit Killabakh community and the effort they go to in ensuring that their community thrives in the future.
