Hair raising!

09 Feb, 2010 12:14 PM
TWO Wherrol Flat girls have committed themselves to a brave head shave next month to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Sisters Angela and Abbey Sheather-Welsh will lose their locks in the name of charity on March 13. Big sister Rebecca will join the party and colour her hair for the cause.

Angela is in year 8 at Wingham High School and Abbey is a year 6 student at Wingham Public School. Their family, like many in Australia, has had its brush with cancer.

Mum Merran, who did the shave last year, said she is extremely proud of her girls for going through with the fundraiser.

“It is something they’ve been wanting to do for the past six to 12 months,” Merran said. “They weren’t asked to or pushed into it. (The shave) is something they have decided to do off their own back. I’m very proud of them.”

Abbey and Angela will also be donating their hair for the Alopecia Foundation to turn it into wigs. While the girls are nervous about the prospect of losing their beautiful ringlets, they are also excited to be raising money for a good cause.

If you want to donate or sponsor the girls, they can be contacted on 0437 141 507 or 6550 7339.
