KILLABAKH gardener, George Hoad is getting potty about potted plants!
Returning for the second year as judge of the pot plant and bonsai section of the Wingham Show, George is encouraging local gardeners to check out the numerous classes available and enter that attractive balcony pot or indoor plant.
Who knows – you could be a winner!
“I’m hoping to see entries in all classes this year, which of course makes my job more difficult, but makes for a better competition and fantastic for the show as a whole.”
The pot plant section has 32 classes including old favourites such as African Violets, Rex Begonia, Aspidistra and for the more adventurous gardener there are Cactus and succulents, Bromeliads and a Bonsai section.
George was quite honoured to be invited to judge again this year and is enthusiastic about promoting not only potted plants but the Wingham Show in general.
“If pot plants are not your thing, there are so many other sections to enter such as fruit and vegetables, cut flowers, jam and jellies, cooking, and photography – the list goes on.”
“Wingham Show is such an integral part of our town’s history, now in its 127th year, presided over and nurtured by countless men and women over the years who have toiled to keep the traditions of the country alive.”
Chief hall steward, June Yarnold hopes for a lot of entries to make the show fantastic this year.
June, who also is chief steward of Taree Show has been in her role for more than a decade and sees that everything runs smoothly and is organised in each section.
Entry details can be found in the Wingham Show Society Hall Schedule booklet available at the Wingham Chronicle office.
Entries for the pot plant and bonsai section close at 3pm Wednesday, March 14 and plants must be in position for judging by 10am on Friday, March 16.
