Father and son killed in Old Bar crash

An 11-year-old Wingham Public School student and his father were killed last week in a motor vehicle collision at Old Bar.

About 12.15pm Tuesday, October 28, police and emergency services were called to reports of a two-car collision on Old Bar Road and Warwiba Road at Old Bar

A 52-year-old Taree man was driving a red Toyota hatchback westbound on Old Bar Road and lost control at the intersection, police said.

The car collided with a Mazda hatch being driven east by a 71-year-old Old Bar man.

The driver of the Toyota, Edward Campbell, and his passenger, 11-year-old Billy Campbell, were trapped in the car.

The boy died at the scene.

The driver was taken to Manning Base Hospital however he died shortly after arrival.

The driver of the Mazda and his a 49-year-old female passenger were also trapped in their car.

Both were taken to Manning Base Hospital with various injuries and are currently in a stable condition.

Old Bar Road was closed for about three-and-a-half hours while police from the Crash Investigation Unit conducted inquiries at the scene.

Anyone who might have witnessed the collision who has not yet spoken to police is urged to contact the Crash Investigation Unit via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A funeral for father and son will be held today at Manning-Great Lakes Memorial Gardens Crematorium.
