 Cuppa prevents catastrophe?

Cuppa prevents catastrophe?

IT’S a good thing Colin McMahon decided to have that cup of coffee.

Colin was at the Wingham Brush Nature Reserve on Thursday to witness the almighty crash of the giant Moreton Bay Fig falling to the ground.

But the holidaymaker from Victoria may have been a bit too close to the action if he had not decided to stop and make himself a hot beverage before venturing into the reserve.

“I was just about to go for a walk through the Brush, but I thought I’d make myself a cup of coffee first,” Colin said. “I was about halfway through my cup when I heard this huge crash from inside the forest. I knew at that stage something big had fallen.”

Colin finished his drink and went to investigate the scene.

“It was incredible,” he said. “The tree really just exploded when it hit the ground.”

Despite the falling fig, Colin was very complimentary of our heritage-listed reserve.

“The Brush is a beautiful little spot,” he said. “I’m just glad I stopped to have a hot drink before I checked it all out!”
