THE passing of tireless volunteer Joan Malpass has resonated strongly throughout the Upper Manning.
Many of the region’s community groups and sporting organisations, plus friends and family alike, benefitted from her generosity and selflessness.
Here are just a selection of tributes to Mrs Malpass from those lucky enough to have know her. . .
“Mrs Malpass was incredible really. She always made (the team) sandwiches and she always kept the score for us. She was one hell of a lady and will be very missed,”
Daniel Carey, Mount George Cricket Club.
“The main thing was the time she put into everything. I think she’d done enough to earn four life memberships of the Wingham Junior Rugby League Club, let alone one. She led by example,”
Tony Lowman, Wingham Junior Rugby League.
“Joan was like a mother to everyone. If you had a problem, she would want to help you. She was a good giver and a very genuine soul,”
Cheryl Saunders, neighbour, friend and fellow Wingham RSL women’s auxiliary member.
“She had a very big heart and gave her time so generously. She was a beautiful woman who inspired so many people,” Jessica Malpass, granddaughter.
“It is a shame that it takes for someone to die before you realise how much they mean to you,” Ken Malpass, OAM, Joan’s husband of 55 years.
