The latest round of federal government funding for councils is in addition to more than $80 million already allocated to stimulus projects on the Mid North Coast.
The figure, which takes account of a range of programs introduced by the government in recent months, does not include the one-off bonus payments and business-related benefits delivered to the region through the two multi-billion dollar stimulus packages.
The member for Lyne, Rob Oakeshott, said an analysis of the stimulus spending showed the Mid North Coast had fared particularly well in the funding carve-up.
“This figure represents an unprecedented investment in schools, housing, roads, councils and community facilities on the Mid North Coast,” Mr Oakeshott said.
Mr Oakeshott noted that more than two thirds of the $80 million stimulus allocation to the Mid North Coast had come from the Building the Education Revolution (BER) fund.
“I continue to repeat the message that increasing our communities’ aspiration for better education standards is the key to tackling many of the local structural disadvantages issues we face, whether they be entrenched higher-than-average unemployment, lower-than-average incomes or higher-than-average poverty levels,” he said.
“In this context, a spend of almost $60 million on improving our schools and the learning environments of our children represents an investment not only in short-term job creation but also in the long-term future of our region.”
Mr Oakeshott said there was still time for tradespeople, suppliers, contractors, designers and engineers to get involved in the delivery of stimulus projects.
